Jim Bracken Shares Lessons from a Life in Business

A big thank you to Jim Bracken for sharing a fascinating 10-minute talk with the group on Friday.

Jim took us on a journey through a lifetime of hard work, determination, and entrepreneurship. Leaving school at just 15 years old, he stepped straight into the world of work, having already developed a strong work ethic helping on the family farm from a young age.

Over the years, Jim has turned his hand to selling everything from potatoes, produce, plants and flowers to household goods, before building and rebuilding a successful roofing business. Along the way, he shared stories of overcoming setbacks, learning new skills, and adapting to whatever challenges came his way.

Outside of business, Jim spoke about his passion for sport, fishing, and horse racing, a lifelong interest that eventually led to racehorse ownership and involvement in the racing community.

Now approaching his 80th birthday, Jim remains actively involved in business and continues to enjoy life with the same energy and enthusiasm that has carried him through the decades.

It was an inspiring reminder that resilience, hard work, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities can lead to a rich and rewarding life. Thank you, Jim, for sharing your story with us.
