This week, we heard from Mark Plant of The Next Step, who delivered a highly relevant and down-to-earth presentation on recruitment—an area many of us are navigating at the moment. With over 40 years of experience in business growth and turnaround, Mark offered valuable, no-nonsense advice on how to approach hiring with purpose, clarity and structure.
He talked us through the full recruitment process, from identifying the real need for a new role, to planning how a new hire will fit into the team, and ensuring businesses are fully prepared to welcome them. Mark stressed the importance of communication, cultural fit, and avoiding the trap of hiring in haste—something that clearly struck a chord with many in the room.
The group appreciated both the relevance of Mark’s insights and his honest, practical delivery. Several members commented afterwards on how useful it was to reflect on their own recruitment challenges, with some taking away immediate actions to apply in their businesses.
We had a strong turnout with 20 members in attendance, exchanged 8 referrals, and reported over £1,600 in business generated from past referrals.
