Your background?
I opted to start at the bottom and work up, covering all areas of the profession, qualifying as a chartered certified accountant. After obtaining my practising certificate, I was offered a management buyout with 101 clients. This number has now grown to over 250 clients for MBE.

Tax issues are where the most help is needed, particularly when so many local businesses service the massive holiday industry.
My enthusiasm with tax keeps me up-to-date and I’m currently studying for further exams as a chartered tax adviser.

Where do your clients need the most help?
Getting the right and most up-to-the-minute tax advice is crucial and capable of making significant tax savings.

Capital gains tax is a big issue when properties are sold, but there are many tax relief options available, which could be missed without the right advice.

Our job can be very rewarding. A cleaner got into difficulties, financially and personally, and didn’t submit tax returns for 5 years running. HMRC estimated these returns and the client ended up with a statement of demand totalling £18,000.
She struggled to find an accountant to help her. We did and relieved her of the stress and financial burden. Liaising with HMRC, we managed to get the £18,000 reduced to £3,000 and set up a manageable monthly repayment plan. The client was so pleased and thankful and the relationship continues.
