Members’ spotlight – Izzy Gray
This week we enjoyed a presentation from Izzy at Lakes Embroidery. Izzy shone a light on the apparel industry’s environmental impact. Her embroidery business is pivoting to sustainable workwear to counteract the sector’s high carbon footprint, unfair labour, and massive waste production.
She highlighted the stark statistics: vast energy consumption, synthetic chemical use, and water pollution from garment manufacturing. To help minimise this, Izzy’s strategy involves offering sustainable clothing from her suppliers, recycled uniform collection, supporting local suppliers to reduce transport emissions, and encouraging ethical labour practices. Her commitment to sustainability is underlined by practical steps like optimising deliveries and collaborating on waste management. A passionate advocate, Izzy’s journey towards eco-friendly uniforms is just beginning, inspiring others to consider their environmental footprint.
