Member Presentation: Julian Wilson – Julian Wilson Electrical Ltd

Today we heard from Julian Wilson of Julian Wilson Electrical Ltd at our Kendal meeting.

Julian gave a practical and insightful overview of everyday fault-finding in domestic electrical systems. From outdated fluorescent fittings to modern plug-and-play LED units, he explained how electrical faults often require careful investigation rather than immediate assumptions.

He shared several real-life examples, including heating control issues, tripping fuse boards, and legacy wiring, highlighting the need to understand how different components interact – especially in older buildings. Julian also demonstrated some of the tools and parts he uses on site, helping members visualise the process behind identifying and resolving faults.

His presentation underscored how much electrical standards and technology have progressed, and why calling in a professional can save both time and money when dealing with complex or hidden faults.
