Employment law in focus with Richard Moore

This week’s meeting brought together 15 members for another productive session, with more than five referrals passed and over £2,500 of business generated from previous referrals. It was a strong reminder of the value of the group, not just in building connections, but in creating real opportunities for local businesses.

Our speaker was Richard Moore of Temple Heelis, who gave members a clear and thought-provoking overview of the employment law changes on the horizon. His presentation focused on how the proposed reforms are likely to affect employers, particularly smaller businesses that may already be managing tight resources and growing demands.

Richard talked through some of the key areas expected to change, including statutory sick pay, the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims, tribunal time limits and zero-hours contracts. He explained that while the aim may be to strengthen employee rights, many employers are likely to see these changes as adding further cost, risk and complexity.

The discussion that followed showed just how relevant the topic is for local businesses. Members shared views on the practical impact of the changes, especially for smaller employers, and there was plenty of interest in what these developments could mean over the next couple of years.

It was an engaging and useful session, combining strong business passed within the room with a presentation that gave everyone plenty to think about.
