Magennis Plumbing: Craftsmanship, Materials and Modern Techniques

This week, Karen and Billy from Magennis Plumbing, along with their newly qualified engineer Reece, gave us a fascinating, hands-on presentation. They showcased the tools and materials used in today’s plumbing, explaining how techniques have developed over the years. From traditional lead and screwed iron pipes to modern copper and plastic systems, we learned why copper remains the preferred choice for its durability, appearance, and recyclability.
Billy also demonstrated innovative jointing methods, including the increasingly popular press-fit technology, which offers safer, quicker installations without the need for heat. The team explained how different materials and fittings are selected based on safety, efficiency, and longevity—especially when dealing with gas and water systems.
With 21 members attending, it was a lively session that gave real insight into the skill behind quality plumbing. We shared 8 referrals this week, and past referrals have generated over £4,800 in business for our members—another great example of local businesses supporting each other.
