10 minute presentation from Tim Farron

About to celebrate his 100,000th case since becoming an MP, Tim Farron explained the inspiration and success behind his record-breaking workload to InGroup.

He urged members to do what they could to back a current campaign to bring radiotherapy services to Kendal, saving the misery of countless cancer patients travelling daily to Preston for treatment.

Quipping that ‘politics is showbiz for ugly people’ he said some people were compassionate but incompetent, while others competent without an ounce of compassion.

How own epiphany, aged 16, was watching 1966 epic film Cathy Come Home, focusing on social injustices and homelessness. Tim got on his bike, bought a postal order, joined Shelter – and the rest is history.

Describing Northern Rail as a ‘flaming shambles’ he explained the recent fight to bring trains back to the Lakes Line and praised West Coast Rail’s timely lifeline intervention.

Tim has seen chemotherapy treatments instated at Westmorland General Hospital, his mother died of ovarian cancer, and countless successes in his 13 years as MP.

In these uncertain times, the area faces a plethora of challenges, notably in housing, education and training. Our workforce is everything, he told InGroup.

“My aim is always to try to make people’s lives better, day by day,” said Tim.

A message for us all!
